It created the world. The magic system is more complex and the religious structure is more unique and multilayered. Wonderful magical epic Absolutely terrific! Cover of The Diamond Throne. And when I was eight, I loved it, although given his massive decline in sales apparently a lot On the one hand, I want to give credit to Eddings for trying to write this.

Sparhawk and his companions follow Ghwerig to his secret cave hidden in the mountains of Thalasia. The search for Bhelliom suffers a setback when Ghwerig, the deformed dwarf troll who originally carved the gem into the shape of a rose, retrieves the Bhelliom first after his own centuries-long search to reclaim his beloved gem. This issue is exacerbated by the way the dialogue is written – you really need to pay attention at the beginning of each conversation, otherwise you won’t know who is speaking with whom once you get four or five lines into it.

There were a few little niggles that part of me just can’t get past. And the prologue is a fictitious legend t I remember this series very fondly, but I think I enjoyed it more as a teenager.

I enjoyed it and the tale but it was just a little less rlenium than it could have been. D Though there are also the parties responsible for poisoning intent on causing trouble which of course leads to all sorts of attempted upsets, daring do’s, plenty of clenched teeth and grim chins!

Jul 10, David rated it did not like it Shelves: I suspect that it would actually be possible for a reader who’s familiar with the genre to pick up book two, start there, and be perfectly fine. What else can you eddinfs from a face? If I had read this in my teens I probably would have been more forgiving of the flaws.

I like these books, don’t get me wrong – they’re fast-paced and fun and the election sequence in the third book involves some of the most readable political shenanigans I’ve come across in fantasy – but they’re far from perfect.

Feb 08, Logan rated it it was ok Shelves: I love the characters and the adventure. The rest was like wading through molasses. It hooks you in the beginning, but the quality of the writing just descends into nonsense and purple prose as it goes on.

It’s a burden that the main characters, the majority of which are knights of the church, bear, and never is the religion explained, expounded upon, or really defended in any form. Usually I enjoy reading YA fiction though I’m not even sure if this is listed as YA – if not, it should bebut I think these books would be better suited for kids.

He breaks almost every rule I’ve heard of from writers workshops or books on writing.

After curing the Queen of her illness, the knights ride for Chyrellos to prevent the Primate of Cimmura from ascending the throne of Eddins. My far, far longer review can be found over here. The new single volume features all of the same material found in the three separate novels including maps.

I liked that traveling took some time. Upon her return to full health she immediately lays claim to Sparhawk – much to his embarrassment. Much of this was sped up with a couple vignettes during stops to describe the heros as they worked their way across the land.

The series consists of three volumes:. Fan de elenuim et d’aventure. I just can’t fathom leaving that sort of thing so undeveloped.

D Though this is davkd to say that The Diamond Throne is not completely packed out with events and world building you can see why three books were needed to get this world started!

In a show of unity, the other three Church Knight Orders also send their champions to be his companions: May 31, Jimmy rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: It’s far too rushed elenuum plot in pages than in half of the Wheel of TimeEddings just isn’t a great author, and his long-term latent tendency toward racism, conservativism and sub-Nietzschean contempt for the little people breaches into plain sight in a way that doesn’t exactly spoil the book it’s a colour around the edges, not the central picture but that does give it a bad aftertaste.

Plot line is ok so far. Splendid Sparhawk This is probably the twentieth time I’ve read this collection of books, but I never grow tired of them.

The Bhelliom was last known to have been mounted on the crown of the Thalesian King Sarak. Okay, this is when Eddings started to just get silly. Not the correct edition. Quotes from The Diamond Throne.
